In 2010, Joe Hafner uprooted his family and moved to Nicaragua. The recession wiped out his business and he’d lost his home to foreclosure. “I needed to reset. Going to Nicaragua was my way of dealing with losing everything I thought was important. It was an escape.” After living there for nearly a year, the Hafner family returned to the states.

“Nicaragua gave me back a sense of purpose. In many ways, living there saved my life.”

Renewed and deeply grateful, Joe called upon his Nicaraguan connections to help guide his desire to give something back to Nicaragua. Go For Hope was founded in 2011 as an education nonprofit to support education through community libraries.
